I did my report back in March and I really like the transformation they made of me. Also, it looked relatively simple to achieve that version of me if I did the right things. They recommended both non surgical and surgical techniques (like fillers and Botox) …

This analysis actually made me feel much better about my looks. I really wasn't expecting it to. The analysis uses fairly neutral language, but with the tiniest bit of a positive lean.

Qoves used my demographic's average when showing how my ratios compare. … One thing that I did not like - the before and after pictures. … It seemed they put a lot of makeup, something I would not do normally.

Every observation in my 16-page report was something plainly visible without any expertise … I also paid … specifically for “5 personalised hairstyle recommendations.” The report gave one styling suggestion …

More detail

More detail and sources How the report is made, the review numbers, more quotes and our sources.

How the report is made

Qoves's software places 512 to 521 points on your photos (its pages give both numbers) and works out the measurements. Qoves lists a ten-person medical advisory board, mostly plastic surgeons, plus a dermatologist and a longevity doctor.

The analysis has nine whole-face areas (first impression, dimorphism, prototypicality, proportions, symmetry, neoteny, face shape, adiposity and facial contrast) and twelve features. The plan has nine sections: introduction, considerations, findings, overview, visual changes, recommendations, action plan, estimations and summary.

Counts differ between Qoves's own pages: 100+, 160+ and 200+ tests, and 4, 6 or 9 photos. The assessments list on Qoves's homepage adds up to 169. This review follows the checkout and the portal.

The review numbers

Trustpilot: TrustScore 4.6 from 844 reviews, 806 of them (95.5%) written in the last 12 months.

Most Reddit reviews we found are in r/QOVESStudio. On r/truerateme there is a post titled “[19F] ordered a qoves facial analysis but wondering what i can improve while i'm waiting (also rating?)” and a post asking “alternatives for qoves analysis?”.

Press: Qoves is named in pieces on AI face rating by MIT Technology Review and The Guardian, and in The Guardian's piece on paid face scans (Spanish copy on eldiario.es).

I received the main report about 3 hours after I uploaded my photos and filled in the questionnaire. Very detailed and lists everything you could and couldn't think of. The one caveat, is the waiting time for the extra reports e.g., the hair report. If you pay … for an urgent and fast analysis, including for their hair report, you'd expect it during the 24-48 hours promised instead of 5 business days and counting.

The strongest part of the analysis is the facial measurements and structural analysis, its comprehensive and interesting. The recommendations were mainly standard common sense advice, skin care (retinoids, vitc, peptides) reducing body fat to optimise jawline definition and optional botox around the eyes. … Secondly and the cause of most dissatisfaction and ruined the whole experience was the proposed 'after' image.

  • r/QOVESStudio

I got my facial analysis recently and specifically for my ears, my before and after photos, they seemed to be altered to be less protruding. However, under my analysis protocol it says “Currently, there are no non surgical solutions that we would recommend for the subject ears.” If that’s the case, I’m curious as to why the after image it has my ears to be less protruding.

Why the photo rules matter

Qoves's strict photo rules have a real basis. A phone held close makes the nose look larger (Ward 2018), and the lens used changes both the face's shape in the photo and how others judge it (Třebický 2016). The traits Qoves scores, such as averageness, symmetry and how masculine or feminine a face reads, are the ones studied most in attractiveness research (Little 2011). Qoves compares you with people of your own background, and face proportions do differ between ethnic groups (Farkas 2005).
